Who this course is for

This course is designed for self-learners and JLPT candidates preparing for N4, with emphasis on listening through structured lessons and guided practice. Listening-first study inspired by the Mimikara Oboeru (耳から覚える) approach. Ideal if you want exam-style review, daily study habits, and measurable progress without a classroom schedule.

Lessons

  1. Unit 01 – Lesson 1 – Sound Insertion & Omission — Practice listening to sound insertion, reduction, and omission in spoken Japanese to get used to natural JLPT N4–level speech.
  2. Unit 01 – Lesson 2 – Vocabulary & Onomatopoeia — Practice listening to and identifying common onomatopoeia and mimetic words to better understand nuance in conversations.
  3. Unit 01 – Lesson 3 – Ellipsis in Listening — Listen to sentences with omitted subjects or elements and learn to grasp the main idea even when native speakers speak quickly.
  4. Unit 01 – Lesson 4 – Review — Comprehensive review of Unit 1, revisiting sounds, vocabulary, and sentence patterns with JLPT N4–style questions.
  5. Unit 02 – Lesson 1 – Distinguishing Vocabulary — Practice distinguishing similar-sounding words to train your ear to catch subtle differences in Japanese listening tasks.
  6. Unit 02 – Lesson 2 – Vocabulary & Expressions (Loanwords) — Practice listening to Katakana loanwords commonly used in daily life and frequently appearing in JLPT N4 listening tests.
  7. Unit 02 – Lesson 3 – Noun Modification — Listen to sentences with noun-modifying clauses and practice processing longer sentences with multiple key details.
  8. Unit 02 – Lesson 4 – Review — Unit 2 review exercises combining vocabulary distinction, loanwords, and noun-modifying sentence structures.
  9. Unit 03 – Lesson 1 – Changes in Spoken Japanese (1) — Practice sound changes in spoken Japanese, such as linking and reduction, to get used to real native speaking speed.
  10. Unit 03 – Lesson 2 – Understanding Speaker Emotions — Practice listening and inferring the speaker’s emotions, attitudes, and intentions through intonation and word choice.
  11. Unit 03 – Lesson 3 – あげる・くれる・もらう — Practice listening to giving and receiving expressions (~てあげる/くれる/もらう) and understanding relationship nuances.
  12. Unit 03 – Lesson 4 – Review — Comprehensive review of Unit 3, revisiting spoken expressions, speaker intent, and giving–receiving patterns for JLPT N4.
  13. Unit 04 – Lesson 1 – Changes in Spoken Japanese (2) — Continue practicing advanced sound changes in conversation to adapt to more natural and longer Japanese sentences.
  14. Unit 04 – Lesson 2 – Understanding Speaker Emotions (2) — Improve your ability to infer the speaker’s feelings and attitudes based on context, tone, and expressions.
  15. Unit 04 – Lesson 3 – Passive & Causative — Practice listening to passive and causative forms and distinguishing meaning and nuance in different contexts.
  16. Unit 04 – Lesson 4 – Review — Final review of Unit 4, reinforcing sound changes, speaker emotions, and passive and causative patterns in exam-style questions.
  17. Practical Test – Session 1 — Full listening practice test for Mimi Kara N4, simulating JLPT N4 structure and difficulty to assess your current level.
  18. Practical Test – Session 2 — Second full listening practice test to experience real JLPT N4 timing and question styles under exam conditions.
